Review:

If you want to get away from the heat of Las Vegas and, at the same time, treat your kids to the experience of life on a ranch, head for the Spring Mountain Ranch, which is located 15 miles west of Las Vegas in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The 520-acre estate, now developed into a ranch and a vacation house, was earlier used to raise cattle, as well as rodents such as chinchillas. Here you will find the main ranch house itself, blacksmith shop, the chinchillas shed, cabins, and even the James Wilson cemetery. Spring Mountain Ranch also attracts tourists with its variety of outdoor Super Summer Theaters, featuring musicals and plays and including full costume re-enactments of the lives of earlier settlers and famous past owners and the string of events that occurred in the area.

The bountiful springs were once used by American Indians to water their vegetation. Although situated in the Desert State, the area is 3,800 ft high, which lends to temperatures 10-15 degrees cooler than in Las Vegas. The cooler temperature consequently encouraged diverse plant species such as marigold, indigo bush, and globe mallow to grow, to name a few. Animals like rabbits, squirrels, deer and foxes can also be found, especially at night time.
